"Festooning" Opening Day

A mobile public art installation hosts storytelling inside a 16 foot tall inflatable bee hive.
Three storytellers engage adults and children about building relationships, opening dialogue with children about danger and safety, learning about bees, and the nature of the artistic vision and process behind this work.

Talk about tough topics with kids

Meet a Quincy-based artist-illustrator of a line of children's picture books designed to help adults engage children in dialogue about difficult topics.
The book Bee Alert follows Harold the Bee whose world is not as simple as he would like it to be. In his search for friendship he discovers the cricket, the grasshopper, and the ladybug who are scared and do not want his friendship. Harold gets frightened. The hornets are angry, the praying mantis deceitful, and spiders manipulative. But then Harold meets a butterfly... The book explores the development of trusting relationships in the midst of feelings of vulnerability, sensing danger, and processing fear.

Taste the honey

CIG Beekeeping of Leominster keep the hives which pollinate Stillman's vegetables. They are working with the University of Arizona to develop chemical-free techniques to address the decline in the honeybee population due to Colony Collapse Disorder. They are deploying their approach here and are now starting to provide very local, more sustainable honey. Yay!
Listen to live music
Susan Bill, accomplished classical violinist for the Quincy Symphony Orchestra and founder of the Atlantic Music School, plays fiddle music to open the market. Members of the Roslindale Open Mic, coordinated by Mike Delaney get a bit more sultry.

Taste MA wine
![]() Did you know there are over 40 farm wineries in Massachussets? A law was enacted to boost local agriculture by selling local wines at farmers markets. And it is working - demand, production and cultivation is growing. Please help our local economy by drinking more.
Frank Zoll employs biodynamic farming - a step beyond organic, and he is an excellent pastry chef - so ask him about pairings with fruit fresh that week at Freitas and Stillman's. Zoll specializes in Riesling, Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Strawberry Frizzante. Our farmers market host several wineries on a rotating schedule. |
Would ya like chips with that?
Concord entrepreneur John Paino has developed the Number 9 line of salsas and tortilla strips as well as Primacotta soymilk ricotta products. A reviewer for the Globe says, "Number 9 salsa is a zesty mixture of tomatoes, red bell peppers, chili peppers, onion, cilantro, lime juice, and garlic..thick and chunky."
Its called Number 9 because it has nine vegetables in it. Paino's is an independent, family-owned, business.

Get veggies, meats, and eggs
and please buy lobsters & fish

Local lobstermen were decimated last year due to a unusually warm winter which created a supply glut, pushing prices to 30 year lows and product dumping into our local market. In addition, regulations to restore fish stocks and long term health of the industry is making it difficult for small, local fishermen to survive in the short term.
C&C Lobster - Chris and Carolyn Manning and their four children run a beautiful lobster boat named the “Carolyn M” from their home dock in Hull. Chris goes out daily to haul a portion of their 800 traps. He has been a full-time commercial lobsterman since 1982.
