“When I paint or draw I am filled with so much emotion that I exude on the canvas with the energy of my line work and color schemes, and I gain some peace and relaxation, it allows me to free myself from the confines of reality and get lost in my own universe where I command time and space.” – Sherwin Long.

Festooning

A sixteen foot high inflatable bee hive hosts 20 people inside for storytelling. Three storytellers engage parents and children throughout the day. They can taste local honey, and watch videos of festooning behavior - a metaphor for the role of the farmers market in the local economy and resilient community.

Festooning: The Inflatable Bee Hive - A Participatory Soft Sculpture - Maria Molteni is a multimedia artist working with participatory soft sculpture. Molteni is a graduate of the School of Visual Arts in Boston University's College of Fine Arts. Colette Aliman is a video performance artist. Aliman is a graduate of the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Both have extensive background in apiculture. Festooning is the lacework of bees, forming a bridge between frames of a honeycomb in a hive, by hanging together leg-to-leg. The more general idea is “individual parts linking together to form more complex and energized systems...a tool for interdisciplinary learning, social interaction, and celebration” says Molteni.
