John MacLean Alive@The QFM

Picture
"... full of heartbreak. The room was silent, listening..."
—  James O'Brien, Jamaica Plain Bulletin

“John MacLean has always been a storyteller. He has told stories from history in his classroom...he has told stories from the stage...and he has told stories from the heart with the recent release of his first musical album, “Letters Home.””
—  Ben Aaronson, Lincon (MA) Journal

Now listen to the song...
Please share how you feel about what John has to say. You may not agree. That's okay. This is a very difficult, painful subject. But we feel that it is important to talk about it - from whatever perspective you have.

For more details go to Music is Alive@The QFM and scroll down to John's section.
John MacLean is a Lincoln-based, Singer-Songwriter of Folk / Urban / Americana. His song "Liars War" about Iraq & Vietnam received an award at the Boston Folk Festival Singer Songwriter Contest.

"…a beautiful song "Liar's War" that is touching and revealing, sad and intimate and sung with a gentle voice and spirit" ... Julie Dougherty

"It knocked me out. His understated style is like quiet fire..." —  Tracy O'Connell

'Letters Home' is one of the finest original traditional folk albums of the past few years."
—  Wildy Haskel, Wildy's World

    Your reaction?

Do you agree with the sentiments of his song? Or do you think that it is not a good portrayal of the truth?

Welcome Servente Baking

Picture
I am Christie Radeos, a Pastry Chef by trade and a home cook at heart.

Growing up in a Mediterranean family I spent my childhood watching my mum cooking and baking in the kitchen. As a family we had home cooked meals at the dinner table each night and large family gatherings during holidays and birthdays. Although, each meal was never complete without my favorite part, coffee and dessert.

It was a privilege growing up with homemade food and baking from scratch, it taught me that good food can be quick, simple and delicious to make.

To enhance my knowledge and skills I went to Newbury College in Brookline, MA. While there I studied cooking, baking and business.

While in college I worked multiple jobs within the culinary industry, from catering companies to bakeries and restaurants. However, my favorite will always be cooking and baking with my mum and family on my days off. That is why I want to offer our favorite dessert recipes at the Farmers Market this year. I hope you all enjoy them as much as we have! I'll bring something different than anything from our other wonderful bakers at the QFM.

Boston Bike Guy!: Behind the Scenes

Quincy son Mike Fink launched a mobile bike repair business at the Quincy Farmers Market with asistance form the Quincy Chamber of Commerce's Startup program. Now he's opened a full service bike shop on Hancock Street. Here is a brief interview we did with Mike the night before the market at his shop.
Boston Bike Guy celebrated his evolution with a demonstration of Freestyle BMX stunt bike riding - right at center stage at The QFM.

"You had stunt riding right in the middle of the market?"

Yes. Yes we did, and we made a music video out of it. Now we are looking for music composed, performed, or produced in Quincy for the final cut of this production. Please put the word out, and tell us who's music should be on it.

Drink an Iced Cardamon Coffee for Justice

The trick to making iced coffee is to brew your coffee twice as strong as usual.
  1. We used 4 tablespoons per cup of water.
  2. We ground El Recreo Estate Coffee set for French Press on our Breville Grinder.
  3. Boil just a quarter teaspoon of cardamon seeds per cup of water in the water for 5 minutes. (or add ground cardamon powder to the hot coffee.)
  4. Steep for as long as you like it strong!
  5. Add C&G Beekeeping's Vermont Honey to sweeten.
  6. Whip just a little heavy cream from Thatcher Farm (delivered to our doorstep this morning.)
  7. Add the dollop of whipped cream.
  8. Sprinkle a little ground cardaman on top.

Have some lunch

Kabob House serves roasted lamb, gyros, chicken kabobs, tandoori chicken, curries, samosas, and Mediterranean deserts.

...or grab a ham and cheese coissant at Big Sky.
...or the best cheddar-filled grilled cheese sandwich we've ever had prepared on a secret bread at O'Brien's.

Homestyle Caterers of Quincy brought lobster rolls and they were really delicious. They also had falafels, lentil soup to die for, spinach pies, meat pies, chicken pot pies, and other Mediterranean treats. Finish with Baklava.

Picture
Looking for lobster? We lost our fish vendor last week - but maybe for a good reason - because they are so busy on Thursday! Yay! Local fishermen had it tough last year, this might be a good sign. Now who wants to step up to a Community Supported Fishery program at the QFM?

How would you like your fish?
